Donating to donation centers such as St. Vinny’s, Goodwill, Habitat for Humanity ReStore, and the Salvation Army is great and very helpful for us humans…. But don’t forget about our local Dane County Humane Society!
Think of what you can’t move with you or don’t want to pack – paper towels, Kleenex, bleach, dry erase markers, cat/dog food, cat litter, and more – the Humane Society would love to take it off your hands. See their complete Wish List here. Just the thought of helping out those in need, including the fur-babies is a wonderful feeling!
Now, the human children. It can be challenging to move with kids, as “Mom, I’m bored” or “Dad, I don’t want to leave my friends” starts ringing in your ears. Keep the kids occupied by giving them their own ‘First Box’ to pack all of their worldly possessions into, and unpack first in the new house. This way, they will know exactly where their favorite stuffed animal, or their special night light, or only pillow, or favorite PJs are for their first night in their brand new bedroom! How exciting!! Make it a fun competition – how fast can you pack the box? How much can you fit?
